Just a Hook

When I was a little girl, I loved to fish. At my Nana's house, at Conesus Lake, anywhere I thought I might get a bite. My dad and I would even go "hunting for night crawlers" in Nana's garden in Springwater, NY so I'd have bait for the next day.

In Wayland they have worm-vending-machines outside of gas stations where you can by bait. I remember one day we got some worms and I went fishing in Nana's pond. I fished for so long that I used all of the bait. Instead of finding something else to do I decided to just keep casting my line out into the pond, no worms, no fake bait, just a hook.
"Marg, your not gonna catch anything with just a hook," Nana said.
"We'll get you some more worms tomorrow." Dad said.
I just kept on fishing.
Then, boom.
I got a bite, I set the hook and reeled it in.
There it was, a Sunfish.
Dad and Nana were in astonished. I can hear Nana now, "for Pete's Sake."

I'm convinced this core memory of mine is the reason why I am such a "go for it" person.
I thought taking on a Customer Service role at work would be cool, so I went for it. I thought moving to California would be cool, so I went for it. I thought being a homeowner would be cool, so I went for it. I thought being the first person in my family to go to college would be cool, so I went for it. I thought fishing with nothing but a hook would work, so I went for it.
Things you try might work out, they might not, either way just go for it. Who knows it might make for a good story.
I am forever thankful for my fishing days at Nana's and who knows I might need to pick up a pole again one of these days.
